Growth Mindset As Confidence's Foundation

Confidence can be developed. It's not something you are born with. It's something you can learn, practice, and master. If you don't believe this, you have a fixed mindset.

A fixed mindset tells you everything is as it always will be: you can't change anything. It says that some people are born with natural talents or are lucky. You don't have either of those realities, and you can do nothing about it. You were born with certain character traits, and it is impossible to add to them. You can't grow in any way. There is no need to try to make your life better because the universe, fate, or some other higher power has decided that you are what you are, and that's all you will ever experience.

A growth mindset doesn't let you think limiting thoughts.

When you decide that you can change your circumstances, you start to believe in yourself. Your confidence in your abilities grows. There is a realization that you might not have everything you need right now to reach some goal or create a new reality, but you can change that situation. Learning new skills and collecting any resources or information you need to create great results is possible.

A Growth Mindset Doesn't Care Where You Are Right Now

Oprah Winfrey suffered emotional, physical, and sexual abuse as a child. She lived in poverty and had minimal resources. It would've been easy for her to look around herself and embrace that existence. There was proof around her that she was undeserving of a happy life, but she decided she could change that.

In the worst of situations, this child, who would one day become one of the most powerful women in the entertainment industry, embraced a growth mindset.

This belief that you can change your circumstances doesn't matter where you are. It makes no assumptions, good or bad.

When you begin to think this way, you realize you can take action, even in the face of self-doubt or uncertainty. That fosters healthy self-esteem. You start looking at yourself in a more positive and capable way. Those beliefs form a powerful foundation for confidence.

Confidence isn't static. It comes and goes. You can develop it, and you can lose it.

If you ever stop believing in yourself or need to change your situation, embrace a growth mindset. Where you are now in your life doesn't matter. All that matters is that you courageously believe you can change your situation.

That's what a growth mindset is all about. You can grow. Growth is change, and making significant changes requires confidence. In this way, a growth mindset and confidence feed off each other to make you more self-assured.
